01

Check what already exists

Review your Canadian reports and confirm your identifying information is correct. If your file is limited, ask the lender whether alternative evidence or an eligible newcomer program can be considered. Overseas records are not automatically imported into a Canadian score.

02

Build a manageable payment routine

Use any credit product within your budget and pay on time. A secured card may be an option, but fees and deposit requirements differ. Avoid opening multiple accounts simply to accelerate a score. Keep rent and utility evidence if a lender asks for alternative payment history.

03

Avoid score and timing guarantees

The time needed to establish a useful record depends on reporting and individual circumstances. Ask when the lender would reassess the file and which evidence is missing. A consumer score is only one part of a mortgage review.

Keep personal identity, tax and banking documents in your lender’s verified secure process.

A question worth asking

Will my foreign score become my Canadian score?

Do not assume so. Ask the lender and bureaus what information is available and how it is evaluated.
